staying warm with panera soups

I'd be lying if I told you that Southern California was actually experiencing winter weather, but it has been fairly chilly as of late. One of my favorite cold weather meals is a hearty bowl of soup and a hot sandwich. I have always enjoyed the fresh soups at Panera Bread and was thrilled to be asked to try out a few new additions to their menu.

I was even more thrilled to coordinate having a soup date with my Grandma Ginger. With such an extensive soup selection each day, she's always able to find something tasty to fit her ever-changing dietary needs. She ordered the Cream of Chicken and Wild Rice Soup - Long grain and wild rice, celery, onion, carrot and diced chicken simmered in chicken broth embellished with cream and select herbs - and declared that it was delicious. She also pointed out that she has had many a bowl of soup in her day, so she knows good soup!

I went for my personal favorite, the Vegetarian Creamy Tomato - Vine-ripened pear tomatoes pureed with fresh cream for a velvety smooth flavor accentuated by hints of red pepper & oregano, topped with Asiago croutons. I catered to my inner child and ordered the You Pick Two and paired it with the new Big Kid Grilled Cheese. Gruyere, Vermont White Cheddar, organic sliced American cheese and Applewood- Smoked Bacon was grilled on new All-Natural White Miche. Grilled Cheese is always the perfect match for tomato soup and this sandwich took the pair to a whole new level.

Grandma Ginger and I througoughly enjoyed our soup date and look forward to checking out more soup varieties as the chilly weather lingers a while longer.
