Although recipes like pizza and broccoli cheddar braids were causing me to drool, they just weren&#39;t quite what I was looking for. And then it hit me - take this simple semi-homemade concept and make it Greek. Who doesn&#39;t love Greek? Thankfully this recipe turned out to be a whole lot of trial with very little error. Before you panic, a pure cane sugar version of Dr. Pepper will be bottled under the Dr Pepper Snapple company, but will no longer bear the history nor nostalgic face of Bill Kloster that we've all come to know and love.<br /><br/>For my non-Texas readers, the small town of Dublin, Texas has been bottling a recipe of Dr. Pepper containing Imperial Pure Cane Sugar for the last 121 years. That's pretty impressive considering that's only six years shy of Dr. Pepper's original debut in Waco, Texas. After all this time, a dispute between Dublin Dr. Pepper and the Dr Pepper Snapple company has led to the settlement that Dublin will no longer be bottling their special recipe of Dr. Pepper under their name. <br /><br />Being from Texas, Dr. Pepper has always been my 'coke' of choice, but Dublin Dr. Pepper was always my favorite. I don't drink soda often, however my rare soda cravings are <i>always</i> for a Dublin Dr. Pepper. My mom and aunt would periodically make the three-hour road trip from Austin to Dublin just to load up on the pure cane goodness and thankfully were always kind enough to share. Cases have been both shipped and hand delivered to us all the way in California over the past few years to make up for the fact that it wasn't readily available here. I could kick myself for finishing off the two cases brought to us back in August, but we had no way of knowing what was to come.<br /><br />This isn't just about losing a soft drink; as I said previously, the recipe will now be bottled under the Dr Pepper Snapple Company. This is about losing a piece of history and the all too familiar tale of small town America being taken over by big corporations. I'm heart broken to learn that the Dublin name will also be removed from billboards, t-shirts and signs surrounding the nostalgic town of Dublin, as if the past 121 years never happened.<br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/25197552@N04/6698249481/" title="Dublin Dr. Pepper by *kimmie*, on Flickr"><img alt="Dublin Dr. Pepper" height="375" src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7009/6698249481_0d3b731bf8.jpg" width="500" /></a></div><br />Dublin, Texas drew almost 100,000 visitors annually. In addition to the large silicone snowflake molds <i>{all the way from China!}</i>, she was kind enough to pick up some mini snowflake molds currently available by Wilton. When approached to host a cookie exchange to raise awareness and funds for <a href="http://www.cookiesforkidscancer.org/">Cookies for Kids' Cancer</a>, I knew that I just had to participate.<br /><br />In 2011 a very sweet five-year-old named <a href="http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/farrahonvani">Farrah</a>, who happens to be a very dear friend's niece, defeated a renal tumor. And although her story is one of resounding success, the tough reality is that not all children are as lucky. What I love about <a href="http://www.cookiesforkidscancer.org/">Cookies for Kids' Cancer</a> is that they are not about one child or one type of pediatric cancer. They are about changing the facts of pediatric cancer for the better, forever.<br /><br /><blockquote><i><a href="http://www.cookiesforkidscancer.org/">Cookies for Kids' Cancer</a> was founded by Gretchen and Larry Witt who were inspired inspired by their son Liam's battle with cancer. In 2007, Gretchen had a crazy idea for a larger-than-life bake sale with the goal of baking 96,000 cookies with friends and volunteers. All 96,000 cookies were sold in three weeks, thanks to the work of over 250 volunteers. The event raised over $400,000 for pediatric cancer research, but it was soon clear that something bigger than a bake sale had begun. What started as a desperate act to raise money and awareness for her child's own cancer blossomed into something much bigger than any had planned. The event caught the eye and the hearts of the media and people all over the country. In turn, <a href="http://www.cookiesforkidscancer.org/">Cookies for Kids' Cancer</a> was formed.<br /><br /><a href="http://www.cookiesforkidscancer.org/">Cookies for Kids' Cancer</a> is committed to raising funds to support research for new and improved therapies for pediatric cancer, the leading cause of death by disease for children under the age of 18. On top of the BlogHer events, we spent the weekend celebrating my belated birthday, dining out and seeing the sights of Southern California.&nbsp;<div><br /></div><div>I have to be honest in telling you that it was quite an emotional kick in the rear yesterday when I realized it was just me again. To go from being constantly surrounded by infinite amounts of friendship, inspiration and love back to my quiet life in our 'new' surroundings put me in quite the funk yesterday. <i>{I'm sure that utter exhaustion had nothing to do with it}.</i>&nbsp;I realized today that although I was starting to feel quite empty, I am in fact just the opposite. 3,000 people do not need to physically be in my presence for me to know that I am still quite full.
